About this site

Hi, I am Philipp Ostermaier, a registered architect in Germany and the UK, with over a decade of experience at Zaha Hadid Architects. My primary role initially focused on designing early-stage projects, creating eye-catching and performative 3D geometries—an essential aspect of ZHA's architectural language.

After winning a competition for a skyscraper in Beijing, the Leeza Soho Tower, I relocated from London to lead its development, spending six years from initial sketches to completion. This experience expanded my skill set far beyond early-stage design, deepening my understanding of how to translate ideas into built reality while managing budget, time, and technical constraints. It also gave me firsthand insight into Chinese business culture, language, and expatriate life.

During my final years in China—including the entire COVID period—I had the opportunity to guest lecture at Tsinghua Shenzhen, where I led my students in designing a concert hall. As a lifelong pianist, I saw this as a chance to explore acoustics with them, an essential aspect of performance spaces.

Upon leaving China, I pursued formal studies in Acoustics at TU Berlin, which led me to mathematics—the foundational language of engineering. From there, my interests expanded also into Machine Learning.

This blog is a reflection of my evolving interests across Architecture, Acoustics, Machine Learning, and beyond. If you share similar passions—whether in design, technology, or the intersections between them—I'd love to connect, exchange ideas, or collaborate. Feel free to reach out!
